MOBILE TUTORING IS HERE
DYSLEXIA IS NOT A FOUR LETTER WORD! MOBILE TUTORING provided by the Alpha and Omega Organization, Inc., DBA Alpha Learning Center, is here in our community this summer. During the past three years, Educational Therapist, Marianne Cintron, has focused her energy working with students using a reading program that was created more than thirty years ago to aid the dyslexic learner. Its research is based on the Nobel Prize Winning theory of the Split Brain by Roger Sperry.
While many would say that adopting a single intervention program for struggling readers is not the way to go since children differ, Ms. Cintron claims that Reading from Scratch is bringing the best results she’s seen in her seven years of teaching. It addresses the needs of the dyslexic student and uses a specialized therapeutic approach to reach a wiring anomaly in the brain that occurs in above-average students. This program is not for anyone with an IQ below 100. There are two reasons for this. The goal is to switch the language processing from the right to the left hemisphere, because that is where the neurons designed to handle language processing are located. In dyslexia, these neurons are not active, so musical and visual equipment are used to activate them. The Alpha Learning Center provided State Approved Supplemental Services to over 60 ELL students in Azusa, Pomona and Rialto. Sixteen students used the musical and visual equipment while the others used the phonics program. 93 percent of the students achieved 1-5 year gains in only 15-18 hours
MOBILE TUTORING can be in your home, the local library, or a meeting place of your choice. Special summer rates are available. Summer sessions are recommended Monday through Thursday for one hour per day. We will continue into the school year if necessary and with parent permission. Please see visit the Alpha Learning Center’s website at www.alphalearningcenter.org for further information and to see recent student results. Be sure you call for an appointment today if you have questions or feel the need for our services at 626-914-1697. We also screen children to determine if a child could have dyslexia.
Marianne Cintron, MAEd/MASEd is a returning resident of Glendora, residing with her husband and children. Ms. Cintron coordinated the remedial program at Foothill Christian School and has been in private practice for two years. She is currently conducting research as an Adjunct Professor with the Graduate Psychology Department at Azusa Pacific University and is planning to pursue her Doctorate Degree in the area of Special Education/Educational Psychology. She is also an Associate Professional in the Association of Educational Therapists and has memberships in the International Dyslexia Association.
