DID YOU KNOW?

Many classrooms and services use music to enhance learning. The Alpha Learning Center is unique because we use a program based on Dr. Roger Sperry’s Noble Prize winning research of the Split Brain Theory. Program success is achieved because of the phonics and grammar components of this program. Furthermore, with non readers who have average ability, generally dyslexic, we stimulate both sides of the brain with different input in order to strengthen the left hemisphere of the brain. With one-on-one remediation, we can send phonics and grammar content (via tape) in a direct path from the right ear to the left hemisphere while music is sent through a second earphone in the left ear to the right side of the brain. Sound confusing? You have to see the results to believe it. This is totally harmless. A neurologist friend recently told me if it works, do it! You are helping more parts of the brain than we even know!

Direct Services

The Alpha Learning Center offers direct services to students with mild-to moderate learning disabilities, dyslexia, or processing deficits.  Students enroll upon teacher referral, parent consent, and consultation with Mrs. Cintron. Many students require individualized attention in order to overcome learning challenges. Remediation is available during the day as students are pulled out of class (K-1st) or after school (3rd-8th).

Students are encouraged to attend a full year for maximum benefits; however, students may also enroll quarterly or for a semester. One session lasts fifty minutes and students may enroll for one to four (if two contents) sessions per week. Language, Math and Speech are tailored to remediate at the student’s ability level.  Parents are asked to help their children at home reinforcing what is taught in sessions. This promotes learning at home as parents partner with the specialist towards achieving the student’s success, and the child-parent relationship is strengthened.

Success breeds Success!
